Defence Ministry directed to recover missing persons

LAHORE The Lahore High Court Chief Justice Khawja Muhammad Sharif Tuesday directed Ministry of Defence to take measures for the recovery of two missing persons, allegedly in the custody of secret agencies. On the alleged abduction of Habib-ur-Rehman of Rawalpindi and Mubashar of Lahore, a report by City Police Officer Rawalpindi was submitted in the court to show investigations so far done to trace out the alleged abduction of Habib-ur-Rehman (24), which confirmed that the man was in custody of a sensitive agency. The report further said that a sketch of abductor had been drawn and the Ministry of Defence was being approached to get the abductee recovered after the identification of the officer of the alleged abductor. About Mubashar, a report was filed by acting secretary interior Qamar-uz-Zaman stating that all the 15 agencies working under the ambit of the ministry had been thoroughly interrogated but the alleged abductee was not found in their custody. At this the chief justice directed a Deputy Attorney General to establish contact with the Ministry of Defence through its secretary and to get the needful done for the recovery of the alleged abductees before nest date of hearing, May 28. Liaqat Ali of Rawalpindi had filed the petition stating that personnel of an intelligence agency abducted Habib-ur-Rehman from a hotel at Murree Road on Nov 18, 2009 and since then his family had no communication with him. An FIR was registered with civil lines police, Rawalpindi but the police failed to recover the abductee. Mubashars father Muha-mmad Naseem had said that his son was a teacher in a school of Garden Town. The father alleged that personnel of a secret agency abducted his son on Oct 31, 2009 outside their house in Harbanspura. Police did register any case in this regard, he added.
