Youth role stressed

LAHORE - Lack of justice and growing intolerance is disintegrating the fabric of our society, said Muhammad Waseem, Director Interactive Resource Centre at the opening ceremony of the 3rd Vasakh Film Festival organised by the Department of Mass Communications, FC College University (FCCU), on Tuesday. The festival showcases award-winning South Asian documentaries on human rig-hts and justice along with student productions to promote talent. Student productions from eight universities are being screed at the three-day festival this year, says a Press release. Stressing the importance of justice and civic rights, the IRC director said the youth of today should use all possible means at their disposal to create awareness about human rights. In his opening speech, FCCU Rector Peter H Armacost said events like the Vasakh Documentary Festival help promote talent and engage students in healthy dialogue. Following the screening of documentaries in two sessions, the house was opened for discussions with panelists, including Dr.Meenu Gur, an independent filmmaker and M Zahid Chaudhry, former FCCU professor. The panelists threw light on the theme of the films and the technical aspects of documentary making. FCCU Dean of Humanities Dr Waseem Anwar and Profesoor Saleem Abbas also spoke on the occasion.
