Taliban supporting LeJ: minister

LAHORE -

The secret agencies have flaws in their frame of work and the ongoing terrorism could not be curbed due to the government’s fragility.
These views were expressed by ex-DG FIA and interim Punjab Home Minister Tariq Pervaiz in an interview published in the latest edition of Family magazine.
“I had arrested Riaz Basra, Akram Lahori, Malik Ishaaq and Ghulam Rasool,” he said, adding the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi re-strengthened itself with the support of Al-Qaeda and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). He said when he was the CID head, only two outfits – Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and Sipah-e-Sahaba – were involved in sectarian-based terror activities. The Lashkar-e-Jhangvi had become a leaderless outfit after its heads were arrested by the Law Enforcement Agencies. But the TTP and Al-Qaeda played a vital role re-strengthening such terror outfits, he added.
To a query, Pervaiz said terrorism has taken a very complicated shape now-a-days. “There are different types of terrorism in the country, so multi-pronged approaches are required to handle them.” He said different strategies are required to uproot the ongoing terror activities in Balochistan and Karachi.
He said he had compiled a list of terrorists during his job tenure which was named ‘Red Book’.
