LAHORE Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed of Lahore High Court on Monday issued notice on an application, which prays to the court for suspending membership of Farooq Yousaf Ghurki in the Punjab Assembly. The application has been filed by Iftikhar Ahmad, on whose main petition the judge had already started ex-parte proceedings against the MPA for not appearing despite repeated notices. Yousaf Ghurki, PPP MPA in the Punjab Assembly, who is currently holding portfolio of Ministry of Information and Technology, had contested election from PP-159, Lahore. Iftikhar Ahmed, a ex-nazim UC-150 and a voter of PP-159, moved the petition contending that Ghurki presented a Bogus BA degree to the election commission for contesting the elections. The petitioner pleaded that the respondent should be disqualified as MPA and minister as he deceived EC by presenting bogus degree. He alleged that Ghurki appeared in examination of Matric in 1990 and he got BA degree in 1992 from the Punjab University for meeting criteria to contest elections. He said after Matric two years are needed to appear in exam of FA and then again two years time is required for sitting in BA examination and it indicated that the minister had got bogus BA degree.
