Jamaat-e-Islami rejects MFN status to India

LAHORE The Central Shoora of the Jamaat-e-Islami has called upon the government to withdraw its decision to accord Most Favoured Nation(MFN) status to India and extend its full support to the Kashmir liberation movement as a party in the Kashmir dispute. The Shoora, through a resolution, said that Pakistans weak Kashmir policy besides the apathy of the UN and the world community was responsible for the continuing brutalities of the occupation forces on the Kashmiris. The Shoora expressed its concern over Indias military exercises and unusual troops movement on the Pakistans eastern border and said that India, under the patronage of the US, was preparing plot against Pakistans solidarity while Islamabad was keen to expand trade. A second resolution adopted by the Shoora called upon the government to withdraw the case against Mumtaz Qadri for murdering Salman Taseer under public interest and urged the President to announce amnesty for Qadri like many other cases especially under the NRO. The Shoora said that the Pakistani nation stood united on the issue of the sanctity of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). The secular forces within the country and abroad had been trying hard for the repeal of the Blasphemy law. It said that three previous regimes had attempted to amend the law but failed to do that due to strong public pressure. It also urged the government to make a categorical announcement that the Blasphemy law would not be changed and said that Europe and the US should be told to stop criticizing this law for being an internal matter. It said that Mumtaz Husain Qadri had gunned down ex-Punjab Governor Salman Taseer for criticizing the Blasphemy law in line with the sentiments of the masses. On the other hand, President Zardari had termed Salman Taseer a hero and the trial court awarded death sentence to Mumtaz Qadri which had shocked the people. It said that cases against thousands of criminals and politicians had been withdrawn under the NRO whereas Mumtaz Qadri was not given any such concession. In a third resolution, the JI Shoora expressed complete solidarity with the Palestinians struggling for liberation and said that the way to liberation passed through Jehad. It said that the talks of the Palestinians leaders with the Zionists during the last 64 years had only sabotaged the Palestinians freedom movement. The Shoora appealed to the Palestinians to unite on the one point agenda of independence and adopt a unified strategy for achieving the goal. It also urged the Egyptian government to reject the policies of the former dictator and announce end of the Gaza siege and opening of Rafah border. model health university: The Laureate International Universities Network, one of the worlds largest healthcare higher education providers, based in United States, has designated the University of Health Sciences (UHS) as a model health university in Pakistan. These interviews will become a part of the course on leadership and governance for international students. During their 4-day stay here, the team will also make a video film of UHS systems for online dissemination throughout the world. Laureate International Universities is a network of institutions of higher education in 28 countries. It is one of the leaders in medical and health sciences education, with 65,000 students enrolled in medical and health sciences programs in 10 countries, 17 institutions, 57 cities, 62 campuses, and online. Talking to the delegation, UHS VC said that Pakistans economic and social future depended heavily on the ability of universities and higher education institutions to transform themselves in unprecedented ways. We need graduates to power an innovative, knowledge-based economy and to participate as thoughtful, ethical, analytical citizens and problem-solvers, he emphasized. Prof Mubbashar said that UHS was stepping up to the challenge of modern times through more engaged governance, more purposeful strategy, and alignment of resources with mission and strategy. With this approach, he added, universities could find ways not only to survive these challenging times, but to thrive. He further said that as revenue sources were stressed, there was a need to place more emphasis on strengthening ties between universities and industry. The key ingredients of our governance are commitment, long-term thinking, analysis, evidence, openness, innovation, religious adherence to standard operating procedures and resistance to all pressures he maintained.
