Sherani questions parliament’s independence

LAHORE - Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) Chairman Maulana Muhammad Khan Sherani has said the parliament has never been independent in Pakistan.
While addressing members of the Supreme Court Bar Association here Saturday, he said decisions by the parliament had always influenced the establishment, political and religious parties in the country.
Sherani said: “Governments in Pakistan preferred foreign support to building our own system by utilising local resources.” He stated the world powers imposed wars on weak nations for their vested interests and used Muslims as an instrument.  Supreme Court Bar Association President Kamran Murtaza also spoke on the occasion. He said supremacy of law and Constitution was the only way through which democracy could be strengthened. Provision of justice to the common man was possible only through a changed system, he added.
