LAHORE – The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA)  police gunned down three ‘criminals’ in another fake encounter, staged in the Chung Police vicinity late on Tuesday, police sources said.
Police claimed a team of Anti-Vehicle Lifting Staff (AVLS) signalled six suspects, who were riding on three motorcycles, to stop near a police picket set up near EME Hosing Society.
The motorcyclists tried to flee and opened fire on the policemen, which triggered an encounter. As a result, three bandits were shot dead while another three managed to escape from the scene. The identity of the alleged bandits was ye to be ascertained. The police have removed the bodies to the morgue and are investigating.
According to sources, the bandits were in the custody of CIA police for the past several months. Sources said the CIA police team took them to the spot and killed them in a fake encounter as they were hardened criminals and wanted to the police in several crimes cases.
The CIA police staged two fake encounters in Iqbal Town and Shahdara police areas late on Monday night, and killed five alleged gangsters. The police have launched an ‘aggressive campaign’ to kill the hardened criminals across the Punjab province as more than 190 ‘criminal’ have been killed in different parts of the province during this year.
GIRL DIES IN ROOF COLLAPSE: A 16-year-old girl was killed and two other family members were injured when the roof of a dilapidated house caved in near the Jholkay Bus Stop on Ferozpur Road on Tuesday, rescue workers said.
Ahmed Ali along with his cousins, identified as Munazza and Asghar Ali, was sleeping in his house when suddenly the rooftop collapsed on them during the downpour. The rescue workers rushed to the spot soon after the incident and launched the operation to remove the debris.
Rescue workers said Munazza, 16, was recovered dead; while Ahmed Ali and his cousin Asghar Ali were seriously injured. They were rushed to a hospital in serious condition. Further investigations were underway.
FIRE ACCIDENTS: Fabrics, electronics and other valuables worth lakhs of rupees were reduced to ashes in two fire incidents in different parts of the City, rescue workers said on Tuesday.
Rescue workers said electronics and other valuables worth lakhs of rupees were gutted as fire erupted in the first-floor of Abdullah Centre situated on Hall Road on early Tuesday. Six fire brigade units reached the spot soon after the happening, launched the operation and managed to put out the fire. The cause of the fire was reported to be short-circuiting.
In another incident, fabrics worth lakhs of rupees were reduced to ashes when fire broke out in a shop situated in Main Bazaar Baghbanpura. The rescuer workers managed to extinguish the fire, which erupted because of short-circuiting.
DRIVER KILLED: A rickshaw-driver was killed while two passengers were seriously wounded when a rashly-driven car smashed into the three-wheeler on Jail Road, police said on Tuesday.
The rickshaw driver, later identified as Zulifqar, died on the spot while the passengers were admitted to a local hospital in critical condition. The police reached the spot, arrested the driver, Imran, and impounded the vehicle. The police are investigating.
