Police to intensify combing operations

LAHORE - Lahore DIG (Operations) Dr Haider Ashraf yesterday directed the field police officers to step up search and combing operations throughout the provincial metropolis.
Police are carrying out search operations against suspected elements in Lahore in the wake of serious security threats. The provincial home department earlier warned the authorities to enhance security measures since Taliban militants were planning to carry out terror attacks in Lahore on large-scale.
Haider Ashraf directed the officers to use biometric machines for verification of individuals during the search operations. He said the police should focus on Afghan nationals working at different places in Lahore and staying here illegally.
The DIG issued these directions while presiding over monthly anti-crime meeting of the City police division.
SP Muhammad Naveed, all DSPs, and SHOs of the city division were also present in the meeting.
The field police officers were also asked to plan raids properly, ensure prior briefing, and check weapons before launching the operations. The officers were also directed to intensify crackdown on proclaimed offender and targeted offenders.
