CIA police kills three kidnappers in encounter

LAHORE - Crimes Investigation Agency (CIA) Police killed three alleged kidnappers in an encounter in Shahdra Town area early on Tuesday. The deceased were identified as Shakeel Ahmed, 35, Muhammad Akram, 25, and Muhammad Arif, 30. CIA officials claimed that the police officials, however, remained unhurt in the encounter which took place at Kala Khatai Road. A CIA police official said that some unidentified people had kidnapped 18-year-old Haris, son of Hamid Manzoor, a resident of Z-Block Defence Housing Authority, from phase 5 on April 22, 2008. An abduction case under section 365 of the Pakistan Penal Code was registered against the unidentified kidnappers on April 24. He said that the accused later contacted family of the victim and demanded Rs 10 million as ransom. They released him after getting ransom from his father. It has been learnt reliably that on August 14, the victim, Haris, recognised one of the kidnappers when he was sitting with some children at a burger point. Haris raised alarm and locals and two officials of Defence B police station caught the man later identified as Shakeel of Jhang and took him to the police station. The accused was later handed over to the CIA city division team led by inspector Muhammad Umer Farooq Khan. On the pointation of the arrested accused, the CIA officials managed to arrest his two other accomplices identified as Akram and Arif. Both were residents of Murredkay. However, according to the police handout three notorious criminals involved in various incidents of murder, dacoity, kidnapping for ransom and other heinous crimes were killed in an encounter with the CIA police. The criminals were wanted by Lahore and Gujranwala police on a dozen of charges while one of them carried head money of Rs 200,000. A team headed by inspector Umar Farooq Khan and other officials was constituted to trace the criminals. The police team, taking prompt action, nabbed a criminal Muhammad Shakeel. Last night, police conducted a raid for nabbing his accomplices in Village Chorra in Saddar Mureedkay. However, when the criminals were not found and the police party was returning to Lahore, four unknown criminals in a car tried to intercept the police vehicle and opened fire. The criminals secured the release of Shakeel at gunpoint and tried to escape towards Kala Khatai Road. The police team started chasing them. The criminals once again opened fire which was retaliated by the police. During cross fire, Shakeel and two other criminals who were identified as Muhammad Akram and Muhammad Arif were killed while the other two accomplices managed to escape. The police seized a pistol and a rifle from the spot. Muhammad Akram was carrying head money of Rs 200,000. These criminals had abducted four months back a young boy, Haris, from Defence Housing Authority and released him after receiving Rs 10 million ransom. Meanwhile, dead bodies were shifted to the city morgue for post mortem examination to be carried out by the medical board of Mian Munshi Hospital.
