LAHORE The Kinnaird College University organised its annual sports day here on Friday.
The chief guest Mrs Samina Khalid Ghurki, Federal Minister for Social Welfare and Special Education, inaugurated the sports day along with Dr Bernadette Louise Dean, Principal Kinnaird College, and Mrs Nosheen Hanif, Head of Sports Department.
Almost 700 students participated in event.
The award for the best athlete was won by Zoubera Zafar.
The winners of 100-metre race include Khadija Waqar, Bushra Ashraf and Javeria.
Sac race was won by Javeria Gohar, Hira Niazi and Haadil Niazi.
Obstacle race was won by Paras Javen, Maheen Sohail and Iman Fatima.
Cricket match was won by the university team.
Zubaira Zafar won gold medal in discuss throw whereas Nazish Javiad and Rubina Afzal won silver and bronze medal respectively.
In the three-legged race, Javeria Gohar and Shehrish got first position jointly whereas Hadil Niazi and Farzida Shafi got second and Hira Niazi with Paras Javen got third.
The tug of war competition was won by faculty.
Next event was 400-metre inter class relay race in which Khadija Mukhar, Javeria Gohar, Shehrish Saleem and Rehona Zahid won gold medals whereas Hira Niazi, Zara Nur, Bushra Ashraf and Fiaza Ilyas got silver medals and Mariam Malik, Kiran Shoukat, Mehreen Khan and Kinza Farooq won bronze.
Musical chair game was won by Ms Tasneem from Islamiat Department while Ms Iram and Ms Muqaddas, who were the guests, were runners-up.
At the end, the students enthusiastically participated in aerobics which was the most colorful event of this ceremony.
Overall 60 gold medals, 60 silver medals and 20 bronze medals were distributed among the winners who participated in different competitions.
Dr Bernadette Louise Dean welcomed the chief guest, Mrs Samina Khalid Ghurki in her address and appreciated her for the active participation in women development activities.
She also thanked Mrs Nosheen to conduct the sports day and appreciated the students who took part in sports activities enthusiastically.
Later, the chief guest distributed trophies and prizes among the winners.
Chief guest Mrs Samina Khalid Ghurki in her address said that players are ambassadors of peace and contribute a lot in creating good will of the country.
She added that active participation of women in sports can ensure not only healthy body but also produce healthy society.
She included that sports women like Naseem Hameed who not only brought gold medal but also prestige to the country.
A large number of distinguished guest, members of Old Associations of Kinnaird Society and parents attended the ceremony.
