LAHORE -Twenty days ahead of by-polls, NA-123 has started wearing elections look full of enthusiasm, festivity and traditional colours. The massive display of banners by different candidates particularly PML-N contestant Pervaiz Malik has pumped up election thrill among the people. Huge billboards erected on roadside and pedestrian bridge with big pictures of elections candidates, their symbols and party heads have turned the routine life into election obsession. Wall-chalking, though banned under Punjab Prohibition of Expressing Matters on Walls Act 1995, is also putting its ample contribution in election mania. People of the area have started participating in the corner meetings being arranged by election contestants. Public gathering and traditional rush of people, considered the hallmark of the elections has started gaining momentum. Party offices regarding election activities have kicked off working day and night. Late night sitting is now a regular feature of the constituency. The arrangements of tea parties with lunch and dinners are in full swing. NA-123 comprises three union councils including many underdeveloped areas of the provincial metropolis like China Scheme, Shalamar, Baghbanpura, Wassan Pura, Chah Meeran, and Kot Khawaja Saeed. The constituency, historically spreading to Shahdara and later divided, now consists of just underdeveloped small towns and localities of Lahore. Total number of the registered voters, according to the Election Commission of Pakistan, is 287,900 including 161,102 male and 126,813 female voters. On Friday, PML-N candidate Pervez Malik held the public meeting, saying development funds allocated for NA-123 would be utilised transparently and no mismanagement would be tolerated. He addressed a huge gathering of masses at Shad Bagh. Provincial Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, MPA Chaudhry Shahbaz Ahmad and Hafiz Kamran Kafil also spoke on the occasion.
