LAHORE - Mid-term elections are not solution to the current political crisis in the country, while we are at standing on a ' volcano of politics where any mistake could harm the federation. The issue of terrorism prevailing in the country could be resolved if America leaves Pakistan and Afghanistan. These views were expressed by President Tehrik-e-Istaqlal Pakistan Rahmat Khan Wardag while talking at Aiwan-I-Waqt on Monday. He said America was provoking nationalists to fight against each other as America wanted to destroy our federation. He said Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had ceased the designation of commander in-chief while PPP was going to restore the same. He said Nawaz Sharif was losing his political fame as he was playing the role of friendly opposition and had no interest in national issues. He said Nawaz Sharif could have resolved the issue of Kalabagh Dam on the occasion of Water Accord of 1991 and also in 1997 when he had the two-third majority in the parliament. 'Nawaz Sharif belonged to Punjab but has failed to protect rights of Punjab and has given 19 per cent water of Punjab to other provinces. He regretted that Nawaz Sharif did not announce the construction of Khalabagh Dam in the accord of 1991. Rahmat Khan said, on the occasion of NFC award, the issue of Kalabagh Dam could have been raised but it wasnt. He was of the view that Punjab would have to bear a loss of Rs 50 billion per year after the NFC award. He said when we were going to suffer such a huge loss why not the issue of Khalabagh Dam was raised at the time of NFC award by the Punjab chief minister. He urged all members of the National Assembly from Punjab to raise this issue in the parliament. He said the current unrest in Punjab was the result of ignorance of merit by the rulers in Punjab and their policy to victimise the political rivals. Rahmat Khan said America had pressurised Musharaf for transit agreement with Afghanistan who refused and remained reluctant but the incumbent government had got its popularity level further reduced by accepting the same agreement. Answering to a question, he said the alliance of Ijaz-ul-Haq and Hamayoon Akhatar could not be fruitful while the politicians like Imran Khan, Munawar Hasan, Aftab She-rpao and Asghar Khan could build a third power by uniting themselves.
