Wajahat Hussains vote recounting plea dismissed

LAHORE A Division Bench of the Lahore High Court Tuesday dismissed an appeal filed by Ch Wajahat Hussain of Gujrat against the recounting of votes in NA-104. Ch Wajahat Hussain, the brother of Sh Shujaat Hussain, President PML(Q), had questioned the single bench order passed on the petition of PPP Ghazanfar Gill to allow recount of votes in that constituency. Ch Wajahat through the appeal had prayed to the Court for setting aside the single bench order. The Division Bench comprising Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan and Abdul Wahid Khan however found no merit in the appeal and dismissed the same. It may be recalled that Ghazanfar had lost the 2008 elections to Wajahat in that Constituency. Through an election petitioner he challenged victory of the Chaudhry alleging rigging in the polls and that recounting of votes has been manipulated in favour of his rival. He had prayed for recount of the ballots which was allowed by the election tribunal. After dismissal of the appeal the single bench order stays alive. Seith Nisar has also been told the beneficiary in this case and his liability stands at Rs 930 million, which he sought illegally as loans in connivance with the high-ups of the bank. He had already paid Rs 400 million to the NAB during the physical remand, and NAB recovered Rs 50 million last year during a raid at his farmhouse near Wagha Border. The court directed NAB to present the accused along with a complete reference on next hearing of the scam. During his visit, he heard the grievances of the litigants and ordered reader of a civil Judge Noor Muhammad (duty judge at place of Khalid Saeed Wattoo) to issue dates to litigants of court of Khalid Saeed Wattoo who is on leave. SC calls reply: A Supreme Court Bench Tuesday called for a reply from the Judicial Magistrate to a petition which ahs been filed by Azam Ikram, the son of deceased former army colonel, Ikram, who seeks registration of a murder case against the former chief secretary Punjab, Javed Mahmood. The petitioner alleged that his father was hit to death by the official vehicles driven by the driver of former Chief Secretary who himself was sitting therein at that time. He contends that after hitting his father at Sarwar Road, the vehicle of the CS escaped the scene leaving his injured father soaked in blood on the road. He contends that his father might have been saved had the Chief Secretary and his driver taken him to the hospital for timely medical treatment to him, which they did not do and ran away from the spot. The petitioner argues that the police concerned did not register the FIR against the former Chief Secretary but gave their own version to the incident and had only booked the driver Ghulam Murtaza in the case. The Lahore High Court had earlier dismissed the petition where through Azam had prayed for naming Javed Mahmood also as accused in the FIR. The present petition has been filed against the LHC order. The Bench of Justice Jawwad S Khwama and Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa last day called the Judicial Magistrate to explain through reply as to why not trial of the case has been started despite the elapse of one and a half years to the incident.
