MNAs urge doctors to call off strike

LAHORE (APP) - The young doctors should honour their oath and high moral values and ethics of the noble profession by calling off strike in outdoor patients department as thousands of patients are suffering due to their illegitimate action. This was stated by the Members of National Assembly Mian Javed Latif and Abid Sher Ali in a joint statement here on Saturday. They said the government had made a solid commitment with doctors for enhancing their salaries from July 1, 2011 and after the commitment there was no moral or ethical reason of doctors strike in OPDs of government hospitals. They said that doctors belong to educated and wise segment of society and should realise the present situation of the country and economic constraints especially in the last quarter of the fiscal year. Mian Javed Latif and Abid Sher Ali appreciated the decision of doctors to withdraw their strike call indoors of hospitals and hoped that doctors would call off their strike in OPDs in greater interest of the poor and keeping in view the miseries of the patients. They said that young doctors should believe on the promise of Punjab government regarding salary increase and wait for July 1. Our Staff Reporter adds: Young doctors while continuing their protest on 19th day at all the outdoor wards of public hospitals of Punjab, while they started providing medical care to the patients lodged at indoor on the assurance of the provincial government for withdrawing the show cause notices to the doctors on Saturday. The Punjab government keeping in view the young doctors decisions, had restored 144 doctors who were on strike. Meanwhile, Young Doctors Association (YDA) President Dr Hamid Butt hailing the decision of the provincial government, once again pledged to halt the medical care at the outdoor units of the public sector hospitals till the raise in their salaries. He also announced that the YDA would evolve a new strategy keeping in view the changing scenario with regard to their demands. It is to be mentioned here, more than two hundred thousand patients could not get medical care on the nineteenth day of doctors strike.
