LAHORE - Muhammad Hussain of United Friends Group yesterday was elected as Vice-Chairman of Punjab Bar Council with 47 votes.
His rival candidate Syed Farhad Ali Shah of the Independent group could get only 27 votes.
Mumtaz Mustafa was elected as Chairman of the Executive Committee. He bagged 49 votes.
Some 75 members of the Punjab Bar Council exercised their power of vote.
The election was held at the office of the Punjab Bar Council while Advocate General of Punjab Shakilur Rehman being ex officio chairman of the provincial bar council conducted the election.
After winning the seat, PBC vice-chairman Muhammad Hussain said that he would play his due role between bar and bench, and would not allow any unconstitutional step.
He also promised that he would work for the welfare of the lawyers.
