PAT to give rousing welcome to Tahirul Qadri

LAHORE – A two-day meeting of the Pakistan Awami Tehrik and Tehrik-i-Mihjaul Quran started here on Saturday to discuss arrangements to accord a rousing welcome to Dr Tahirul Qadri on his return to Pakistan in November.
Dr Raheeq Abbasi and Faizur Rehman Durrani co-chaired the meeting at the PAT Secretariat. Final decisions would be taken by the Majlis-i-Shoora on Sunday (today).
Dr Qadri wants to force the rulers to change the existing electoral system because in its presence no real change could be brought about. The prevailing system, Dr Qadri believes, serves the interests of only the feudal and capitalists.
PAT is preparing itself for an important role in national politics. The party has organizations at all tiers across the country, but they will mobilise the masses only when Dr Qadri is back home. The PAT chief has been staying in Canada for the last few years.
The participants of Saturday’s meeting discussed various proposals to make Dr Qadri’s return to Pakistan a historic event. Some were of the view that at least two million people should receive the PAT chief so that other parties in the field get an idea about the real strength and popularity of the party.
Chaudhry Muhammad Sharif, Senior Vice-President, highlighted the media’s importance in advancing the party’s agenda.
