LAHORE - For the very first time in the province, the Punjab government has decided to recruit at least 100 Civilian Senior Station Assistants (CSSA) in the Punjab police department, a police spokesperson said
on Sunday.
While terming it as the beginning of a new era in the provincial policing, officials say the recruitment of civilians in the law enforcing agency would help improve police working besides restoring the public confidence in the police
service.
The basic responsibilities of the Civilian Senior Station Assistants are to maintain official record at police station level, ensure immediate registration of public complaints, and to help people get their complaints redressed.
According to an official handout issued on Sunday, the decision to this effect was taken by Punjab Inspector General of Police Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera while presiding over a high-level meeting at Central Police Office Punjab. All the senior officers attended the meeting. Initially, this initiative would be launched as a pilot project in Lahore and 10 police stations are selected for this purpose. Most probably, this pilot project would be made functional in January 2015.
Later, this project will be expanded to other districts of the province subject to the success of this pilot project. Under this plan, at least 20 (male) Senior Station Assistants, 60 (male) and 20 (female) Police Station Assistants will be recruited. All these appointments will be made on contract basis. It was also decided in the meeting that the required funds for the project will be managed from the existing budget allocations of the police department. The procedure of these appointments will be advertised properly in the national newspapers.
The spokesman dubbed the decision the beginning of a new era in the provincial policing to help improve police working besides restoring the public confidence in the police service.
