LAHORE - After holding a mid-term review meeting of party ministers to evaluate their performance on Friday last, the PPP Co-Chairman, Asif Ali Zardari has convened a meeting of partys Central Executive Committee (CEC) on Wednesday to discuss host of issues, especially the current volatile political situation and to evolve party strategy to counter all anti-government moves. The decision to call CEC meeting was taken in Fridays meeting in which it was also decided that such political meetings will be held more frequently. The CEC has been convened after a long break of around six months, and would be attended by 55 members and 28 special invitees including federal ministers. President Zardari would chair the meeting while PM Gilani would attend it as partys Vice Chairman. This central body of the PPP is meeting at a time when the party is under extreme pressure from different quarters, as there is talk of change in the current political set up. The rehabilitation of flood victims is also one of the biggest challenges facing the PPP-led government in a situation when countrys economy is in a pretty bad shape due to a number of factors. Issues relating to current political situation, rehabilitation of flood victims, relations with coalition partners and partys organisational matters would be discussed in the meeting, said a party source privy to the development. He further told this scribe that CEC would also ponder over the challenges and hurdles in the way of government and evolve strategy to counter the negative propaganda against the government. The CEC is likely to adopt resolution reposing full confidence in the leadership of the Co-Chairman PPP President Asif Ali Zardari and the head of the Government Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani in the wake of looming threats to the government. The President had said in his concluding remarks in the last meeting that he will take appropriate decisions in consultation with the party on organisational matters, beginning with Balochistan, where all party cadres are under suspension.
