PEL impose 5-0 win over Hyderabad

LAHORE - Front-runner Asmat Ullah Khan became joint leading scorer as Pak Elektron Limited (PEL) recorded impressive 5-0 win over host DFA Hyderabad in NBP National Football Challenge Cup 2009 on Monday. The Group-D match at HESCO Complex turned out to be one-way traffic with PEL 3-0 advantage at interval. Under captaincy of Pakpattan-born midfielder Muhammad Awais, PEL wet onto business quickly when in the 4th minute former international Farooq Rehman raced onto Muhammad Adil's defence-splitting pass and sent the ball past keeper Mehrab's right hand.Bannu-born Asmat Ullah came into action in the 18th minute when he tucked the ball past Mehrab from hand shake distance after a long ball caused panic in Hyderabad area. The 29th minute saw third goalof Lahore-based team that used to play in top league of Pakistan. Midfielder Kamran cut the ball back from byline and winger Ibrahim Khan alias Swati was on hand to steer the ball low into right corner. PEL,under AFCAID-27 Scheme coach Asghar Khan Anjum, enhanced the lead further in the 56th minute. Muhamad Bilal crated the opening and Kamran was the finisher with low drive on left corner, leaving substitute keeper Shahzad no chance. Asmat Ullah joined Shakir Lashari (PIA) and Rizwan Asif (WAPDA) in the list of four-goals scorers with 61st minute strike . He played a fine one-two with winger Muhammad Bilal and hammered the ball past advancing Shahzad. It was PEL's first win in the competition after 1-2 defeat against KPT and 1-1 draw against Navy. Hyderabad, PAF, HEC , SSGC, Pak Steel, NBP had already been eliminated and the departure of NBP was forced by a player Muhammad Saeed from Karachi's Gharib Nawaz Club, Dalmia who struck two explosive goals in the final eight minute for Sindh Government Press (SGP) to turn the tide against bankers. SGP's manager Ghulam Haider, first ever captain to lift winning trophy of the event at Sukkur in 1979, continued his brilliant tradition of talent hunt. He produced another player Saeed from a little known club who caused sensation at Hyderabad and was applauded by big supporters at stadia inside Sindh Sports Board Complex. SGP, after taking 36th minute lead through Abid Ghafoor, threw away advantage as NBP came back with goals from Adam 43rdmin and Abdul Aziz 59th minute. It looked enough for bankers but Saeed came from nowhere to cancel out all the pre-match predictions. He drew level in the 82nd minute and SGP's jubilation was on fire when Saeed slammed winner in the first minute of injury time and the 1993 Champion, who finished bronze medalist last year, made an early exit.
