LAHORE - Pakistani pilot and martyr of 1971 war, Rashid Minhas, remembered on his death anniversary during a ceremony held at Aiwan-i-Karkunan-i-Tehreek-i-Pakistan.
Speaking on the occasion, Coordinator Nadeem Raza Shaikh said that Rashid Minhas was taxiing for takeoff on a routine training flight when an instructor pilot forced his way into the rear cockpit and seized control of the aircraft. When Rashid Minhas realized that the absconding pilot was heading towards India, he tried to regain control of the plane but was unable to do so.
Knowing that it meant certain death, he damaged the controls and forced the aircraft to crash thirty-two miles short of the border on August 20, 1971. Pakistani government conferred Nishan-i-Haider on him, the biggest military reward.
Separately, the students of Government Girls High School Kot Lakhpat students visited the Nazaria Pakistan Trust and attended Aghi Programme of the trust and visited Pakistan Movement Gallery.
The students also attended a lecture on two nation’s ideology. Meanwhile, mobile units of the trust visited Siratul Quran Institute Mughalpura, CDG High School GT Road, Government Public Model School Nain Sukh and Mustafai Model Girls High School Old Kahna.
