Chief justice demands focal persons for courts

LAHORE - Lahore High Court Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah wants the provincial government to appoint senior focal persons in all departments in the interest of better assistance to the courts in the litigation and quick disposal of cases.

Presiding over a committee meeting of Punjab Judiciary yesterday, the chief justice made it clear that the judiciary does not like to create hurdles in the functioning of government departments and also does not want unnecessary delay in court proceedings due to absence of the government officers or that impediments are creating in the disposal of the cases.

“So, the departments should nominate senior officers as focal persons to appear and assist the courts,” CJ Shah told the meeting attended by Punjab chief secretary, advocate general, and secretaries of home, law, prosecution, and finance. The chief justice further said the “Case Management System” would start next month, stressing that it was the duty of all stakeholders to implement and make it successful.

Mansoor Ali Shah said that there was lot of unnecessary cases in the LHC on account of lack of interest of the government officers. “If the officer may show interest and form committees to solve departmental cases then the litigants may not be needed to approach courts,” he held.

Justice Shah also stressed the dire need to rationalise the existence of the Special Courts/Ex Cadre Courts throughout the divisions of Punjab so as to enable the people of the province to have direct access to justice. He also asked the government officials that the special courts may also be established at divisional level.
