PML-Q mulls over 'Shadow Cabinets

LAHORE - In a bid to exert more pressure on the PML-N-led Government in Punjab, PML-Q is planning 'Shadow Cabinets for the province, not only to identify the shortfalls in various policies of the provincial government but also to made proposals for correcting them. Ch Pervaiz Elahi, senior central leader of the PML-Q talking to The Nation on Wednesday said that several proposals for the formation of the Shadow Cabinets in the province were under consideration and partys think-tank would soon evolve a strategy for establishing the stated cabinets in the province with the consultation of partys bigwigs. He said the upcoming Shadow Cabinets would comprise experts on the working of various provincial ministries and departments that would carry out the task aware the people of the province regarding the shortcomings of the Punjab Govt. The said cabinets would not only point out the loopholes in the policies of various ministries and departments but also made their recommendations for correcting them in order to provide relief to the people of Punjab. Meanwhile, addressing a meeting of PML-Qs parliamentary meeting, Ch Pervaiz Elahi said that the provincial government, fearing the local bodies polls, wanted to utilise the funds of the local bodies governments on the non-development works and salaries. He said the funds of the Zakat were being utilised for the 'Sasti Roti Scheme and the real beneficiaries orphans, widows and the poor were not being paid from the Zakat Fund. PML-Q leaders including Ch Zaheer-ud-Din, Muhammad Yar Hiraj, Kamil Ali Agha, Raja Basharat and Ahmed Yar Hiraj and other party leaders and workers attended the meeting. Ch Pervaiz Elahi said that in the first round the provincial government tried to escape from holding the by-polls and now they wanted pending the local bodies elections, as amendments in the local governments laws was really meant to delay the local polls for indefinite time. The provincial government wanted to implement such amendments through new local governments law that strip off the local representatives of their powers and shift the same to Chief Minister Punjab and reduction in the representation of women and minorities was also part of the new law of the local governments, he remarked. PML-Q leader said his party would not accept the stated amendments in the new local bodies law and would strongly resist it. The parliamentary meeting of the PML-Q has decided to raise the public interest issues in the current session of the Punjab assembly that include shortage of electricity, gas and water, while the PML-Q-led Opposition would also take up the issues of non-provision of Zakat and Bait-ul-Maal Funds to the needy and anti-farmers policies.
