LAHORE - Former President Asif Ali Zardari’s spokesperson Senator Farhatullah Babar on Tuesday said he was not in the knowledge of any meeting between the former president and the US Ambassador to Pakistan, Richard Olson. There were reports in the media that PPP’s Patron-in-Chief Asif Ali Zardari had a meeting with the US ambassador in Pakistan a couple of days back at the latter’s residence. Olson reportedly asked Zardari not to push for Musharraf’s treason trial as the same would be a violation of the NRO and that he could be in trouble in connection with the pending cases against him. “Chinese Ambassador in Pakistan, Liu Jian did meet him (Zardari) at Karachi recently. But I am not aware of any meeting talking place between him and the US ambassador,” Babar told The Nation. Asked if there was any pressure on the former president to stay neutral on the issue of Musharraf’s treason trial, Babar said he could not say anything about it as he was not aware of any such meeting between the two. This news was published in The Nation newspaper.
