Illegal detention intolerable: IGP

LAHORE - Inspector General of Police Punjab Shaukat Javed has said that illegal detention would not be tolerated and only guilty persons would be arrested. One dish law be implemented on marriages in letter and spirits, as well as strict action should be taken against the persons found involved in canal water theft and adulteration in pesticides. IG police expressed these views while presiding over a meeting of police officers at Sheikhpura Sunday. On this occasion RPO Sheikhpura Tanvir Ahmad, DPO Sheikhpura Zaeem Iqbal Sheikh, DPO Nankana Sahib Akbar Nasir and other senior officers were also present. IGP directed the field police officers to prepare the list of target offenders involved in heinous crimes like murders, kidnap for ransom, gang rape, robbery, dacoity for last five years and special team should be constituted comprising dedicated and experienced police officers for their arrest. These lists should be available to the SHOs of every police station. He directed that free registration of cases also be ensured and strict legal action would be taken for failing to register the cases. He further said that elite force should be utilized according to law. He said that investigation system was being made more effective and a separate wing of investigation would work under the supervision of SP for investigation of heinous crimes but concerned SHO, DSP and DPO would also be responsible in this regard. IGP further directed that police officers to take necessary steps for controlling the incidents of canal water theft so that the provision of water to the farmers at tails could be ensured. He also directed that special team be formed to stop the smuggling of wheat. The vehicle be confiscated involved in wheat smuggling and not be given on 'sapurdari' till 30 days. He urged the police officers to direct the owners of petrol pumps, money-changers, business centres and shopping plazas to hire security guards for their protection under the Shops Establishment and Security Act.
