25 criminals arrested

OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE About 25 criminals, associated with some eight notorious gangs, have been arrested from different areas of Iqbal Town Police Division during a police crackdown launched on criminals last week. Police concerned have also recovered 29 motorbikes, five cars, 75 cell phones, a tracker-jammer, Rs 5.4 million in cash, pistols, rifles and 100 bullets and cartridges from them. While addressing a press conference, the DIG Operations Ghulam Mahmood Dogar flanked by Iqbal Town Division SP Operation Muntazir Mehdi told the reporters that the division had topped in weekly performance evaluation. He said the initiative of 'Weekly Performance Evaluation had been started in order to promote sense of competition among all the six police divisions. Mehdi has performed well on which his efforts are being recognised and other SPs should also follow this marvellous professional attitude, he added. The arrested gangs include: Mansoora gang, Ijaz Jutt car snatcher gang, Ameer alias Ameeri gang, Muazzam alias Maoji gang, Naseem alias Kala gang, Yaseen Dogar gang, Zeeshan alias Shani gang, and etc. About 60 cases have also been traced against the arrested members of aforesaid criminal gangs. Responding to a query, Dogar said during preliminary interrogations Yaseen Dogar gang had confessed of their involvement in dozens of felony acts. We have recovered a jammer from Yaseen dacoit gang, which is used to make tracker out of order of different cars but further investigations are underway, he added. He further said the results were positive and the high-ups were hopeful in future as they have established their mindset to eliminate crimes and criminals from the provincial capital. He also stressed upon all the divisional SPs to remain in contact with media men and also seek guideline in connection with different steps being initiated by the City Police. Later, keys of motorbikes, cars and cash were handed over to the owners concerned on the spot.
