N popularity claims to be exposed in LB polls

LAHORE - The popularity claims of the ruling party would be exposed in the local body polls while the followers of Imran Khan would take lead in the local elections, claimed PTI Punjab President Ijaz Chuadhry.
He made this claim while talking to media people after attending an Eid milan party organised by a local PTI leader on Sunday. Ijaz said the unpopular policies of the ruling party would result in its defeat.
He asked the leaders and workers of the party to prepare for the local body polls amid the pre-poll rigging by the ruling party.
Meanwhile, Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly Mian Mehmood-ur-Rashid accused the provincial ruling party of committing serious wrongdoings in the delimitation process. He demanded one-week extension to the time for filing objections against the new delimitations.
Addressing a press conference at his private secretariat, Mehmood claimed that provision of Rs 10-million to each member of the assembly from the ruling party in the name of development fund was part of pre-poll rigging in the local body elections.
He said it was the duty of the Election Commission to carry out new delimitations after the passage of 18th Amendment, but violating the laws, the officers of the district administration had been deputed to do the job. Mehmood said that the new delimitations would confuse the voters.
Avoiding direct comments on not taking to streets against the rulers despite PTI’s repeated announcements, he said, “We want to give the rulers more time as four months were not enough to gauge the performance of a government.”
