LAHORE - Punjab Home Secretary Major (retd) Azam Suleman Khan Monday told the LHC that the 23 year old report by Justice (retd) Akhtar Hussain Commission, regarding the attack on PAT chief Dr Tahirul Qadri, was missing.
Appearing before the full bench headed by Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan, the Home secretary said that the commission’s report was not found in the government record. Upon which, Justice Khan asked the secretary to submit affidavit so that the court could fix the responsibility.
This is perhaps the third time that the Punjab government officials appeared before the bench and feigned that they could not find the report. The bench adjourned further proceedings till Nov 06.
Earlier, a written reply submitted on behalf of the secretary stated that the inquiry report was not available with the government. At this, the bench directed the secretary to appear in person on next hearing.
Amjad Ali, a local resident had filed the petition submitting that Dr Tahirul Qadri had been trying to create anarchy in country by delivering provoking speeches at public gatherings. He stated that PAT leader caused unrest and risked law and order situation in the country. He alleged that the PAT workers were involved in violent activities and tortured policemen in Islamabad.
He said that the right to express was not unbridled but subjected to certain laws.
He asked the court to put a ban on Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT) for being involved in violent and unconstitutional activities. He pointed out that a judicial commission headed by Justice Akhtar Hussain had declared the murder attack on Dr Qadri a drama.
