Eligibility of Nawaz, Nisar challenged in SC

LAHORE - Insaf Lawyers Forum, Punjab chapter, has challenged the eligibility of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan in the Supreme Court Lahore Registry for allegedly telling a lie in the Parliament regarding the army’s role as an arbitrator in the current political situation.
The petition, filed through Insaf Lawyers Forum Punjab Senior Vice President Advocate Gohar Nawaz Sindhu, argued that the PM and the interior minister had violated the Constitution by lying that the government did not ask the chief of army staff (COAS) to play his role as a mediator.
Sindhu argued denial by the ISPR had established that both of them had told a lie in the parliament. The counsel further contended the government had tried to give an impression that the COAS intervened in the situation on the request of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Awami Tehreek.
He argued Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had lost their credibility as they had violated Article 63 of the Constitution. The petitioner prayed to the court to disqualify them from being the members of the parliament and contesting any election.
Previously, a petition on the same ground has been dismissed by LHC on the ground that since the matter is political, it is not maintainable.
