PAT files contempt plea

Lahore - Pakistan Awami Tehreek filed Saturday a petition in the Lahore High Court seeking contempt proceedings against the Punjab government for not complying with the court orders for the release of party workers across the Punjab.
The PAT filed the petition through Advocate Ishtiaq Chaudhary and submitted that the government had given the court an assurance that it would release all detained workers soon. He said unfortunately, the detained workers were still suffering in jails and had not been released.  He said that the court had also sought a report from the additional home secretary to submit compliance report. The petitioner pleaded the court to initiate the contempt proceedings against the home secretary and additional home secretary for violating the court orders.
On Friday, an additional home secretary had assured the court that all detained workers would be released when the court decided to announce an order. He had told the judge that the detained workers would soon be released.
