LAHORE - A prize distribution ceremony for the position holders of BA/BSc annual examinations 2014 was held in the University of Punjab on Thursday.
No dignitary representing government got into the sight, not even the chancellor or the education minister.
BSc’s Saba Khalid, Atiqa Fakhar and Sumiya Munir secured first, second and third positions and were awarded with cash prizes of Rs1,00,000, Rs75,000 and Rs65,000 respectively. Similarly, BA’s Ayesha Mairaj, Nayyab Ramazan and Shahbaz Ahmed obtained first, second and third positions and were awarded with cash prize of Rs100,000, Rs75,000 and Rs65,000 respectively. Shields and prizes were also distributed among top position holders.
Whereas, the university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran, also announced a reward of Rs5,00,000 for examination staff for preparing results of 133223 students in less than four months.
Addressing the ceremony at Al Raazi Hall, the vice chancellor said that the Muslims should review their actions as no one can become knowledgeable and “Mujahid” without the strength of character. He said that the Muslims were facing problems because of defiance of these instructions of Holy Quran. He said that Jihad was compulsory for every Muslim but how many Muslims were getting military training? He said that military training enabled us to be disciplined in our daily life.
Kamran said that Muslims were sleeping but the United States was ruling the world on the basis of research and his Army was present in 152 countries of the world. He said that none of the governments in the past spent more than 2 per cent on education in Pakistan and there was need to invest in education, creation of new knowledge and training for country’s uplift.
He also said that our bureaucracy did not want to stand Pakistan on its feet. He said that it was noteworthy that all the positions holders were private candidates, which exposed the standard of education in public sector colleges, he added. He congratulated students, their relatives and teachers for their success, saying that it had become possible only because of their commitment and hard work.
PU Registrar Prof Dr Amin Athar, Controller of Examination Dr Liaqat Ali, Treasurer Muhammad Rao Sharif, Additional Controller Ali Ahmad Chatha, Deputy Controller Khurram Enayat, position holders, their relatives and teachers were present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, the PU declared the result of Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm-D) First Professional, 2nd Annual Examination 2013. Detailed results are also available at PU website www.pu.edu.pk.
Separately, a meeting of Punjab University Advanced Studies and Research Board (AS&RB) approved 24 PhD synopses, 18 evaluation reports, 10 panels of examiners, 25 extension cases and 5 miscellaneous cases. Prof Dr Muhammad Ehsan Malik, Prof Dr Shahid Kamal, Prof Dr M Zakria Zakar, Prof Dr Massarrat Abid, Prof Dr Mumtaz Akhter, Prof Dr Ismatt ullah Zahid, Prof Dr Tahira Basharat, Prof Dr Hassan Mobin Alam, Prof Dr Moeeen ud Din Nizami, Controller of Examinations Prof Dr Liaqat Ali, Chairperson DPCC Prof Dr Kanwal Amin and Registrar Prof Dr Muhammad Amin Athar attended the meeting.
