Report on child education sought

LAHORE - The Lahore High Court Friday ordered provincial and the federal governments to tell the court about their responsibilities regarding the provision of free and equal education for children from the age of five to 16 years.

He pointed out that private educational institutions were looting the general public and now it had become as much expensive as a common man can afford it for his children. The petitioner contended that a large number of students had left schools because they could not afford it.
Article 25 of the Constitution emphasized over the quality of citizen and the governments were bound to provide free and equal education to the children, he pleaded. The petitioner prayed the court to order the governments to fulfill their responsibilities for the said purpose.
After hearing arguments of the petitioner, Justice Ijazul Ahsan sought replies from the governments and adjourned the hearing for two weeks.
