LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Monday directed the Kharianwala police to immediately arrest PML-N MPA Rana Shoaib Idrees who is accused of taking away forcefully his companions from police custody.
The CM ordered the police to take action against the MPA for his unlawful action. He said no one is above the law, and no concession would be meted out to those involved in violating the law. Following the CM order, the police conducted raids but could not arrest the accused MPA. According to media reports, the police at the higher level are working out strategy to apprehend Rana Shoaib.
Meanwhile, the CM came down strict on Rana Shoaib Idrees for his act of trespassing the police station and getting his companions released from the lock-up without any legal authority. Sources in the PML-N said the CM has asked the accused MPA to tender his resignation as MPA and face the law. They further said the suspension of Rana Shoaib’s party membership is also under consideration.
The two-day old incident took a serious turn for the government after media projected this illegal action of Shoaib. The sources said the CM is determination not to spare anyone who violated the law. They said some hands from Faisalabad came to action to mitigate the offence allegedly perpetrated by Rana Shoaib as they wanted to serve on him show-cause notice and initiate disciplinary proceedings before axing his membership but the CM in stiff mood wanted the accused MPA to tender resignation and get his position cleared; otherwise he would be relieved of his membership.
A PML-N MPA on the condition of not being named said that decision has been taken at the high level of the party to suspend membership of Shoaib and restore in the light of legal outcome of his act.
