LAHORE - The Election Commission and the Lahore Cantonment Board making arrangements for holding the local bodies’ polls in 20 wards of the two zones on April 25.
Officials of the Cantonment Board told The Nation on Saturday that they have not received the nomination papers from the Election Commission so far. The board is likely to hold a meeting with the commission on March 23 for the purpose, they said.
Political move:
A writ petition was moved in the Lahore High Court against apolitical local government elections.
PTI leader Awais Younas said in his petition that the election were being held on a non-party basis which was against the constitution. He said Article 17 of the Constitution does not allow non-party basis elections.
He said every citizen had right to contest election and join party of his/her choice in this regard as it had been laid down by the verdict of the LHC.
He prayed the court to direct the government to hold party-basis elections in cantonment areas.
