Pakistan can beat NZ: Qadir

LAHORE Former chief selector Abdul Qadir believes that Pakistan team has the ability to beat New Zealand at their backyard provided they play to their potential. Talking to the journalists, Qadir said that the players should do their best to win against New Zealand. Its only after the win in the series that would compel the PCB to make Mohammad Yousuf permanent captain otherwise Younus Khan is a strong candidate for the captaincy. But the decision to give captaincy to a senior and experienced player was a right decision of the board, he added. Qadir further stated that the PCB has to decide now if it wants to try the fresh talent in the World Cup of stick to the experienced players. The PCB should start planning for the 2011 World Cup now and take pragmatic steps in this regard so that a proper team may be groomed for the big event, he said. He further said that the Pakistan bowling attack has the ability to pose difficulty for the Kiwi players at their home grounds but our teams defeat at UAE was beyond understanding. If we form team from two Quaid Trophy match playing teams they would beat the current New Zealand team, he believed. The defeat has lifted the moral of the Kiwis and they would be a different team in the Test series against Pakistan, he maintained. The players like Umer Akmal and Mohammad Aamer would turn things for Pakistan and they surely are the future of Pakistan cricket. These two players can play vital role for Pakistans success for a long period and the selection committee should keep these two players in a special attention, he concluded.
