Workshop on scope of Laparoscopic surgery

Lahore - The Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology of Post Graduate Medical Institute and Lahore General Hospital on Friday organised a workshop on “Role of Laparoscopic Surgery in Gynaecology” to highlight the importance of Laproscopic surgical techniques. Speaking on this occasion, PGMI/LGH Principal Prof Anjum Habib Vohra said that there was a dire need of getting skill in latest and ultra modern techniques to make Pakistani doctors compete in the world. He said that the use of Laparoscopic surgery was increasing in the country as techniques allowed surgery to be performed with less trauma and minimal damage to body tissues. He added that in many cases, patients go home the same day or the next morning.
Prof Muhammad Aslam urged the doctors to get skill over the latest technology paying full concentration to their professional requirements and education. He said that it was the duty of the doctors to educate the patients about the importance of Laproscopic surgery that offers less pain, fewer complications and faster recovery than traditional operations.
Highlighting its scope, he said that the surgery was performed using an instrument called Laproscope, a thin and lighted telescope that is inserted through a tiny, half inch incision made in the navel. He said that the Laproscope allowed a doctor to see and operate in the abdomen without using a long incision.
Prof Shamsa Hamayun said that women in Pakistan were afraid of going major operation during delivery. She said that C-section was also considered a bad omen for women’s health. She said after introduction of Laproscopic surgery in Gynecology, the risk factor had been reduced to minimum level.
