LAHORE - Lahore police on Tuesday claimed to have smashed several gangs of criminals by arresting their 85 members involved in more than 220 cases of heinous crimes including killings, armed robberies, and kidnapping for ransom.
Police have also recovered looted cash, cars, gold ornaments, and other valuables worth millions of rupees from their possession. These important arrests will definitely downgrade the crimes rate in the provincial capital in particular and across the Punjab province in general.
“This police success is the result of a massive crackdown launched against the most-wanted criminals early this month,” Lahore Capital City Police Officer Muhammad Amin Wains told reporters while addressing a news conference at Police Headquarters Qila Gujjar Singh on Tuesday.
DIG (Operations) Dr Haider Ashraf, DIG (Investigations) Shahzad Sultan, and CP CIA Omar Virk were also present on this occasion.
Several hardened criminals are also among the arrested accused persons who were wanted to the police in multiple killings, abductions for ransom, and extortion cases as well, the Lahore police chief added.
The police are directed to handover the recovered valuables to the victims, the CCPO said, adding, this initiative will restore the public confidence in police force.
During this campaign, the CIA police also smashed a few inter-district gangs who committed armed robberies and murders in Kasur and Okara districts. They are desperate criminals who had killed three people including a woman on offering resistance during armed robberies in Lahore, Kasur, and Okara districts.
Responding to a question, the CCPO said that the Lahore had introduced triple-one intelligence system to unearth the criminals involved in organized crimes. “One man, one information, and one month is our triple-one intelligence system. As per this plan, every policeman who is serving in the Lahore police is bound to provide information about a crime incident or a criminal once in a month,” the city police chief explained.
He further said that the police officers would review in-depth the secret information provided by a policeman before initiating action against the criminals.
When asked about the numerous public complaints related to the police emergency service (Rescue-15), Amin Wains said that a comprehensive plan had been devised to improve the emergency service in Lahore. “We are struggling hard to bring the Rescue-15 service at par with international standards. This service will be revamped and upgraded very soon,” he maintained. The police chief also said that armed patrolling had been intensified in the crime-prone localities to hunt down the criminals involved in street crimes.
