Workshop for women litigants ends

LAHORE (PR) - The second workshop of a consultative session for women on gender sensitisation in the field of alternate dispute resolution concluded on Friday here. The workshop focussed on dialogue targetted the women representing non-governmental organisations, media and rights activists in the Punjab capital. The first workshop, held yesterday, was participated by women lawyers, advocates and counsels based in the city. Both the workshops, as a part of the consultative session for women, were organised by the New World Concepts in association with the International Finance Corporations Pakistan chapter, an affiliated body of the World Bank, under the Alternate Dispute Resolution Project. The main objective of the workshops were to share lessons, experiences and benefits of alternate dispute resolution for discussion. Gender specialists from New World Concepts highlighted problems being faced by women entrepreneurs and women litigants in resolving disputes in courts and detailed how mediation can provide a much better option to women in settlement of disputes. IFC Pakistan ADR Programme Manager Ms Navin SaI;im Merchant told the participants of the second workshop that the main objective of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Programme was to institutionalise court-referredlco urt-annexed mediation and other forms of ADR for more speedy and cost-effective commercial dispute resolution, offering greater access to justice for entrepreneurs.
