LAHORE – Central Shoora of Jamaat-e-Islami has called for immediate announcement of elections under an impartial government and an autonomous Election Commission to enable the masses elect their new leadership for resolving their problems. A resolution adopted by the Shoora at its meeting chaired by JI Ameer Syed Munawar Hasan has said that the four year period of the present government had been a failure and it could not be expected to do miracles during the fifth year. The Shoora stressed that the interim government should be set up in consultation with all the political parties and the Election Commission should enjoy full powers over the entire election process besides financial control. It however warned that any unconstitutional step on the excuse of government failure would not be tolerated. Through another resolution, the JI central advisory body condemned the misuse of the state institutions and public exchequer by the PPP government for party programmes and objectives. It deplored that the Presidency which was the symbol of the federation, was being used as party headquarters. It said the government had lost its credentials on account of its misdeeds and incompetence. Through another resolution, the Shoora urged the parliament as also the superior judiciary to take notice of thousands of missing persons. This news was published in The Nation newspaper.
