Malik Ishaq’s bail plea disposed of

LAHORE - A Division Bench of the Lahore High Court on Wednesday disposed of the bail petition of Malik Ishaq, Ahl-e-Sunnat Waljamat leader, advising him to approach the subordinate court for relief. Appearing before the court, counsel for Ishaq submitted that two cases registered by Bhakkar police against his client were based on political victimisation. He said that the police registered the cases without any concrete evidence and also inserted sections of Anti Terrorism Act.
He prayed to the court to release his client on bail. Appearing on behalf of the Punjab government, a law officer said they have ample proof against the accused hence his bail application should be dismissed.
However, the court after hearing the arguments, asked the petitioner to go to the trial court for this remedy first and then come to the High Court.
According to the FIRs, Ishaq delivered provocative speeches on August 8th, 2012 and February 2, 2013 in religious gatherings.
He was accused of spreading hatred and creating unrest in the area.
