Punjab govt announces education package for kiln children

LAHORE: The Punjab Government today approved an education package for the children working at brick kilns.

The package, which was approved at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif through video link, envisages monthly scholarship for the children, besides free of charge provision of stationery, books and uniform.

The Chief Minister said the parents would be given Rs 2,000 for sending their children to schools whereas the children, who would go to school during the current academic session, would also receive Rs 1,000 each.

Shehbaz Sharif said, eliminating child labor at brick kilns was his mission. The kiln owners, who violated labor laws, would not only be sent to jail but their kilns would also be sealed.
