'Q' to maintain its own identity

LAHORE - PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has said that his party would maintain its separate political identity and would keep playing its constructive role as opposition while remaining neutral in the ongoing power game in Punjab. He was talking to media men after the Central Executive Committee meeting of the party on Sunday. Senior leaders Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, Mushahid Hussain, Ijaz ul Haq, Ch Zaheer uddin, Waseem Sajjad, Sher Afghan Niazi, Basharat Raja, Tariq Azeem, Attiya Anayat Ullah, Shafeh Hussain, Shah Hana Farooqi and others were present on the occasion. Chaudhry said, "Since we have no lust for power, therefore we will never make alliance with any party", adding that PML-Q would harness its potential to redress the grievances of masses. He said PML-Q would play the role of an impartial strong opposition. He said the tripartite formula was suited to prevailing political scenario but unfortunately it could not be implemented not only in Punjab but also in centre. He said, "Those hijacked our MPAs are working against the spirit of democracy." He said the party members of Punjab Assembly were friends and brothers and their return would be welcomed before initiating legal proceeding against them. He alleged that the government itself started the horse-trading and this would not move the democracy forward stressed the need to respect PML-Q mandates in Punjab, NWFP and Balochistan. He said the current situation demands to think about problems being faced by the people of the country instead of thinking to come into power. He informed the journalists that two committees had been formed in the meeting and said one would work on political issues while the task of other committee was examine the economic issues. He said the entire nation with one voice condemns the threat of drone attacks in Balochistan. PML-Q demands end of price-hikes, load-shedding and horse-trading, he added. Secretary General PML-Q Mushahid Hussain Syed while informing about party decisions told the media men that four resolutions were passed in the meeting. He said the party in a resolution congratulated Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry for restoration to his office. In another resolution PML-Q condemned US threat of drone strikes in Balochistan. Third resolution was passed against load shedding, inflation and unemployment while the party's central executive committee also passed resolution to condemn the practice of horse-trading, he added. He said his party respects mandate of all other parties but our mandate was violated and urged the government to avoid double standards, adding that PML-Q would play the role of opposition in centre as well as in Punjab according to the democratic norms. Speaking on the occasion, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said show cause notices would be issued to those changing loyalties.
