LAHORE - Police have detained a couple for brutally beating a teenage housemaid in Bahria Town, sources said on Saturday. The victim’s condition was said to be serious at a hospital. A police spokesman said that Nasir Mahmood and his wife Uzma Bibi were being interrogated by the Sundar police. A criminal case has also been registered against the couple on the complaint of victim’s father. The 12-year-old Najma was working at the house of an influential lawyer for a few thousand rupees per month. The lawyer’s wife brutally tortured the resident of Shafiqabad. The house owner contacted the parents when her condition deteriorated. She was shifted to the hospital by her parents, who contacted the police for help but they were initially snubbed by the cops. The police stepped in as the media broke the news story. Lahore DIG (Operations) Rana Abdul Jabbar has ordered the police to take strict action against culprits irrespective of their statuses. Further investigation was underway. In January, a housewife confessed to investigators that she tortured her ten-year-old maid to death allegedly for stealing thirty-thousand rupees. Four years ago, the death of a Christian girl, also a domestic worker, in Lahore had sparked countrywide protests amongst the Christian community. SI found dead: A police official was found murdered in the Sanda area on Saturday. Police said that unidentified car-riders fled after throwing the body of a man out of a moving car.
