Awan says latest leaks have 'exposed Sharifs

LAHORE - In continuation of his diatribe against PML-N leadership, former federal law minister Dr Babar Awan Sunday said that fresh revelations by WikiLeaks had exposed the real stance of Sharifs about restoration of the once deposed judges. Addressing a press conference at the residence of Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly, Raja Riaz Ahmad, Awan said Sharif brothers should not take credit for judges restoration after the secret of their so-called courageous stance on restoration of judiciary had now been exposed by the latest leaks. To a question, Awan termed PML-N as the biggest hurdle in the way of draft legislation on accountability law. He alleged that PML-N leaders were unjustly shifting the blame for the delay, in this regard, to the PPP; whereas, as a matter of fact, it were they who were creating hurdles. He said he was surprised to know why Sharif brothers had boycotted the Parliament. He asked them to end boycott of the National and Punjab Assembly. Awan said Shahbaz had not visited the Punjab Assembly for the last six months. He said PPP never resorted to boycott of the Parliament even during their two-third majority tenure. He also invited Nawaz Sharif to become part of the Parliament. Instead of sending indirect messages through pigeons, they should talk to the government directly. Accusing Nawaz party of doing politics on serious issues, he said political leadership should take all national issues seriously and sit together to find out the solutions. He alleged that Shahbaz government was facing serious issues of governance especially with regard to law and order situation. There is virtually a Daku Raaj in rural areas of Punjab during the night, he further alleged. Commenting on Shahbaz Sharifs announcement regarding refusal of foreign aid, Awan asked if Punjab government will also stop foreign-funded water projects. Criticising wheat procurement policy of Punjab government, he said that in view of the present scenario, it would be difficult to stop farmers march towards Takht-e-Lahore. He also alleged that South Punjab budget was being spent on development works in Lahore. Meanwhile, in his informal talk with reporters Babar said that PML-N should not insist on inclusion of its nominees in the proposed commission on Abbottabad operation. He further said that other parties in the parliament had objections at some of the names proposed by the PML-N which had also proposed the name of Editor-in-Chief TheNation Majid Nizami to which our party had reservations because other media groups will also want to have their representation in that commission.
