LAHORE -
Gunmen killed a 26 year-old lawyer in the Defense Housing Authority (DHA) in a drive-by shooting and escaped instantly, police said on Wednesday.
The deceased, identified as Zain Ghaffar, left his house on Wednesday morning when seven armed men intercepted his car in the Phase-IV (Y-Block), DHA.
The gunmen opened straight fire on the lawyer and fled away after ensuring death. The police reached the spot and removed the body to the morgue for autopsy. The complainant told the police that Hamza Butt and Hamid Nasir Butt along with their five other accomplices stopped the car of the advocate before shooting him down.
Police investigators believe that the lawyer was killed over land dispute since he had developed old enmity with an influential group in the Gujranwala district. The lawyer had been pursuing the murder case of his uncle, who was shot down by his rivals over the same dispute.
The family also told the police Zain was receiving life threats for the last couple of weeks. The deceased had developed dispute with the group over the possession of 300-kanal piece of land.
Separately, a man was recovered dead from the River Ravi near Suggian Bridge on Wednesday, police said. Local residents spotted the dead body on the river edge and contacted the police.
