Battle for Punjab Bar Council

LAHORE - Amid traditional fervour and zeal, the polling for Punjab Bar Council (PBC) election held on Saturday while the final results would be announced later in few days across the Punjab.
As many as 268 candidates are in run from eight divisions of Punjab for a five-year term of 75 members. 22 candidates from Lahore; 12 from Multan; 10 from Gujranwala; 5 from Sargodha; 7 from Rawalpindi; 6 from Bahawalpur; 5 from DG Khan; and seven from Faisalabad division were to be elected.
A large number of lawyers casted their votes and remained busy all day in attracting other members to get votes for the candidates of their own choice. However, the polling concluded on Saturday evening but the results of all polling booths would be announced sometime later next week.
Advocate General Punjab Hanif Khatana, being ex-officio chairman of the PBC, would start announcing division wise results from Nov 25 to Nov 28. The final official result would be announced on Nov 29 at Fane Road office of the bar.
In Lahore, there were 45 polling booths established at the Lahore High Court for lawyers of Lahore Division, while the polling started 40 minute late from its schedule time at 9:00am and ended at 5:30pm.
Strict security measures had been made for the elections and all the roads surrounding LHC building had been blocked for general transportation and traffic. Associates of senior lawyers were seen busy campaigning for the candidates of their groups.
All the streets and road coming to LHC had been decorated with colourful posters, strikers and banners carrying names and photos of the candidates. The city was giving a look as if general elections were being held.
The incumbent AGP Hanif Khatana conducted the election as returning officer while Sessions Judges and other judicial officers nominated and supervised the polling in their respective districts.
