LAHORE - Punjab Inspector General of Police Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera yesterday awarded cash prizes and appreciation certificates to three policemen for arresting a double murder suspect.
A police spokesman claimed that the Sadar Kasur station house officer, Muhammad Younis, was offered two million rupees as bribe by the suspect. However, the officer rejected the offer and handed over the accused to the investigators.
According to police, the SHO was on duty at police picket on Ferozepur Road along with other officials when a car was stopped for checking. The police recovered five million rupees and one pistol from the car. During checking, the suspect was identified as a proclaimed offender in a double murder case registered with Raiwind police.
The suspect offered two million rupees as bribe to the policemen for his release but they detained the proclaimed offender and later handed him over to the Raiwind Police for interrogation. The police chief awarded Rs300,000 cash and an appreciation certificate to the SHO and Rs50,000 each and appreciation certificates to assistant sub-inspectors Muhammad Sharif and Muhammad Imran. The police chief lauded efforts of the policemen for performing duties with honesty and dedication.
