LAHORE - Fellows and members of College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) have condemned efforts of dividing the institution, saying that they would raise voice at every forum to protect its status.
In separate meetings at CPSP Regional Centre Peshawar and Hyderabad the other day, fellows and members said that establishment of provincial college of physicians and surgeons was aimed at undermining the prestigious institution serving the country for decades. They said that CPSP was symbol of national dignity as its degrees were recognized worldwide but some vested interests wanted to divide it at provincial levels.
“Presently 85 per cent specialists in the country are degree holders of CPSP. They are serving in both public and private sectors and in Pakistan Armed Forces for more than half a century. The CPSP has achieved distinction in the world and has recently been declared Socrates Award by the European Business Assembly. CPSP is self reliant and autonomous institution and as such not a financial burden on the government”, they said.
Fellows and members in KPK unanimously passed a resolution at the meeting in Peshawar, condemning efforts of dividing the CPSP.  “We condemn the establishment of Sindh College of Physicians & Surgeons and resolve that CPSP should remain intact. Its name and assets cannot be divided. This College belongs to its fellows, members and supervisors and they will leave no stone unturned to protect it.
Other institutions for postgraduate medical education may be established by any province and any government but not at the cost of CPSP. Using the name of CPSP should not be allowed. Current status of CPSP should remain intact so that its stature and recognition at national and international level are not affected. We also extend our support to the President and the Council of the CPSP to protect the future of postgraduate medical education in Pakistan”, the resolution reads.
