LAHORE - Tributes were paid to the services rendered by Khan Abdul Qayyum Khan at a special sittings held in commemoration of the Pakistan Movement heroes who died in October on Wednesday.
The programme was held at the Aiwan-i-Karkunan-i-Tehreek-i-Pakistan under the aegis of the Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust in collaboration with the Pakistan Movement Workers Trust. A large number of students attended the sitting in the company of their teachers.
Noted columnist Aziz Zafar Azad observed that the Pakistan Movement leaders struggled to have true the dream of Allama Muhammad Iqbal under the leadership of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. They carried message of the Muslim League to every nook and corner of the sub-
continent.
The columnist further observed that Khan Abdul Qayyum Khan was a great national leader, an outstanding jurist and an excellent administrator and statesman. He was born in Chitral in 1901. He joined the Muslim League in 1945 and was elected MPA from Peshawar in the 1946 elections, he added.
“He was arrested and imprisoned during the civil disobedience movement against the congress ministry of the province. After being released, he worked day and night for the success of the freedom. He served as Chief Minister of the Province till April, 1953. On October 22, 1981, he died of cardiac arrest after serving the nation in different capacities,” Azad added.
