0.15m seek admission to Inter in City colleges

LAHORE - The admission process at various levels, including intermediate, graduation and masters, is in full swing. In this regard, Government MAO College displayed first merit list the other day (Saturday) after which the students have started depositing fees, while the last date for admission in BA/BSc/BCom is 31st of this month. The merit in Pre-Engineering was 815, Pre-Medical 693, ICom 740, ICS 700, General Science 500 and Arts 550 in the first shift and 630, 600, 500, 590 and 440 respectively for the second shift. Principal Prof Zafar-ul-Mohsin Pirzada says complete transparency and merit is being exercised and no students group is allowed to interfere or fleece the admission seekers. He said with the peace in the campus and improvement in the quality of education, a record number of students applied for admission in intermediate classes. More than 8,000 admission forms were submitted while 10,000 applications are expected for BCom-IT open for both boys and girls. Thousands of forms are also received for six disciplines at the masters level for English, Psychology, Economics, Mass Communication, Urdu and Mathematics, both for the morning and afternoon shifts. The entry test for all these postgraduate disciplines will be completed by August 24. The forms and prospectus were issued through the Punjab Bank, he adds. Pirzada said 58 classrooms, libraries and laboratories had been refurbished for the next session while tutorial activities would commence after vacations on September 1. The admission process in other affiliated colleges of the Punjab University and Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Lahore that is expected to be completed towards the end of this month. However, some private colleges will complete the same by September 8. According to an estimate, 0.15 million candidates applied for admission in the 35 City colleges at intermediate level. 25,000 candidates also appeared in the entry test conducted by the University of Engineering and Technology Lahore, while 30,000 aspirants are contesting for the limited seats in the medical colleges. The highest merit, 940 marks and above, in pre-engineering and pre-medical was registered in Government College University, Lahore College for Women University and Punjab College which have since closed their admissions picking the most talented students in all disciplines.
