LAHORE - Senator Pervaiz Rashid has said that Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Quaid Altaf Hussains invitation to the Army Generals to impose Martial Law and assuring them full support of his party has exposed his undemocratic attitude. Commenting on MQMs chief statement on Monday, he said that by expressing desire for Martial Law Altaf Hussain had not only trampled the constitutional and democratic values but also shown his dictatorial mentality. He said that the idea put forth by Altaf Hussain had been in practice in Pakistan for about 30 years and it also resulted in the disintegration of the country. He questioned the motives of Altaf Hussain in floating this idea once again. The role of all institutions is determined by the Constitution and the country will have to pay a heavy price if these roles were switched. He questioned the motives of Altaf in pushing the army into the same quagmire from which it had come out with great difficulty. Altaf Hussain is a British citizen and is making a big mistake by interfering in the affairs of Pakistan. British government should take notice of these outrageous remarks of Altaf Hussain. There are certain sections in the Constitution of Pakistan under which action could be taken against Altaf Hussain while Pakistani government and the parliament should also hold him accountable for this statement, he added. Rashid said that Altafs statement in favour of Martial Law was all the more objectionable, as he was a part of democratic government. He said that Altaf was the ally of Pervaiz Musharraf during earthquake in 2005 and he can also be held accountable for the misappropriation of relief assistance for the calamity-hit people.
